The Master Detective is the main character of the Mystery Case Files series. Their gender is unknown. Their first case was surrounding the crime spree in Huntsville and after earning the rank of Master Detective was worked in many cases since then.

The badge of the Master Detective. (Huntsville, Prime Suspects, Ravenhearst)
arresting all of the criminals and putting the head honcho, Gertrude Goodlittle behind bars. As a result of this, the detective earned the rank Master Detective, as well as the keys to Huntsville. (Huntsville) This was one of their first cases. (Rewind)

The detective later investigated a case in Capital City wherein a diamond called The Queen's Hope went missing from display on loan.

There's been plenty of speculation among the Mystery Case Files fans as to whether the Master Detective is a male or female. A lot of games decide to stand neutral on the topic, with some games such as Dire Grove, Sacred Grove allowing you to pick a gender. Other fans use Madame Fate as evidence that the Master Detective is a female as they respond to The Queen's phone call with a feminine sounding voice. The wiki will decide to stay neutral on the matter, using they/them pronouns when referring to the detective only.
